URGE THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO SUPPORT LANGUAGE ACCESSIBILITY IN VIRGINIA

All Virginians should be able to access services by state agencies – and all state agencies receive federal funds requiring them to provide these services. But if a person has disabilities that affect their communications or doesn’t speak English and a state agency hasn’t implemented a plan to facilitate their access, that person can’t obtain services.

Two bills – Senator Hashmi’s SB 270 and Delegate Tran’s HB 1049 – would require state agencies in Virginia to make their services available to all Virginians regardless of language barriers or disabilities that affect their communications. SB 270 is expected to be heard on the Senate Floor either Monday, February 7th, or Tuesday, February 8th, while HB 1049 is headed for the House Appropriations Committee. Support language accessibility in the Commonwealth by urging the General Assembly to pass SB 270 and HB 1049!
