At a conference focused on childhood obesity, LaTonya Reed’s presentation focused on the paradox of people being overweight or obese but at the same time being underfed or malnourished.
Reed, director of Virginia Hunger Solutions, was one of the speakers at the Weight of the State youth obesity prevention conference held in April in Henrico County. Hundreds of people gathered to talk about efforts to prevent kids from getting fat.
Virginia Hunger Solutions is an initiative of the Virginia Poverty Law Center, where Reed works as an attorney, and the Food Research and Action Center, which in April released a report titled “How Hungry is America?” The report looked at food hardship, a measure of whether families in the past 12 months reported not having enough money to buy the food they needed.
